Origins and Characteristics

Purple Thai, feminized Seeds

Hailing from Thailand, Purple Thai is one of the oldest native strains. In its region of origin, it can grow up to 4 meters tall, featuring slender leaves and long conical flowers with very long hairs. There are two distinct phenotypes: one exhibits a purple shimmer on both leaves and flowers, while the other showcases dark green leaves covered in trichomes. Due to relatively consistent sunlight throughout the year, two harvests per year are sometimes possible. However, heavy monsoon rains often prevent this, making summer the preferred time for cultivating these pure sativas.

Effects and Experience

Purple Thai delivers a potent sativa experience with a powerful psychedelic rush of happiness. This landrace strain is ideal for those who enjoy the mind-opening qualities of marijuana, offering a deeply introspective head high. It’s particularly well-suited for meditation, yoga, or any creative endeavor.

Flavor and Potency

The dark buds of Purple Thai deliver an amazing exotic, fruity, and berry-like flavor. With an average THC content of 24%, this strain has been stabilized through selective breeding of the strongest Thai mother plants using specialized techniques.

Growing Purple Thai

Purple Thai has a flowering period of 11–13 weeks and can be harvested at the end of October or beginning of November when grown outdoors. In Northern Europe, outdoor cultivation is best done in greenhouses to protect against autumn storms and low temperatures. Flowering should be initiated after 3–4 weeks of vegetative growth. It performs well in SCROG and SOG systems, allowing plants to reach their full potential. This variety thrives in both hydroponic and soil setups. Keeping temperatures lower during the final weeks of growth can enhance the purple and blue hues of the buds.

Mature indoor plants can grow up to 80–90 cm tall, producing heavy buds with a dark purple color and orange hairs. Indoor growers can expect yields of more than 500g per square meter. Outdoor plants can yield up to 1kg per plant, depending on conditions like temperature and soil quality.

Medical Use

Purple Thai is well-suited for morning use and is effective in managing various ailments such as stress, depression, and loss of appetite.
